effort (Type Installation)
“Everything is a process” is a philosophy that looks beyond just the end results but appreciates the constant ongoing processes in life. With that mindset, we examined and realised how much “hidden” process was behind deceptively simple means-to-ends actions in our modern day lives. For instance, the watering of a plant at surface level appears as just the action of spraying water at a plant, but the process of how the water arrives at the plant is far more elaborate and effortful (e.g. transportation, filtration, sanitization etc). With so much effort than meets the eye, we thought to represent this idea with a Rube Goldberg machine (a device deliberately over-engineered to perform a simple task in a complicated fashion). We hope that upon viewing, our audience will be encouraged to reflect and appreciate the ongoing process of life instead of focusing solely on final results.
