What we do

StandCraft is an NUS Enterprise-backed startup that has ambitions to disrupt the design and events industry. We are all familiar with using nifty tools like WIX and CANVA. And we thought to ourselves, 'If these companies can create beautiful and affordable templatised design for the 2-D world, surely we can do something for the 3-D world!' Thus, StandCraft was born. StandCraft helps brands stand out in the physical space. In the emerging field of experiential marketing, it is key to merge the online/offline worlds in physical spaces to create compelling brand experiences. Hence, we transform 'spaces into places' through our creative installations, displays and stands. All these may be ordered as customised templates on our future online platform, just like WIX and CANVA. Here are several points on how we do things differently: BEAUTIFUL - Everyone can claim to 'do' beautiful. But Shirley, our co-founder and design lead, has the design chops to prove it. She was trained in architecture at The Bartlett (#2 in the world), worked in an architecture firm in London and brings an original, architectural approach to the structures we design. Imagine the sophistication required in designing an entire building brought down to a smaller scale. SCALEABLE - We are as much a tech startup as we are a design one. All our design templates are computerised 3-D files. Put them into the machine and out comes our structure. This helps us to scale rapidly, both within Singapore and beyond. MODULAR - Our installations buck the industry trend of high wastage and bulky design. Each one of our structures are modular, often flat-packable (like IKEA!). Easy to take apart, assemble, transport and re-use. Just like Lego blocks, add and remove pieces to suit different spaces and events. EXPERENTIAL - Combining technologies such as wireless charging, Arduino boards, sensors, lights, sound and more, we create multi-sensory, physical experiences that strive to blend the online/offline. Helping brands build emotional connections and lasting memories.

Why we do

We did not start out wanting to set up a new company. As with many good things in life, we took it step-by-step and soon found ourselves running a startup. Shirley was completing her masters in architecture at NUS, having studied and worked in London for 5 years prior to returning to Singapore. Galven was exiting his job with StarHub, where he handled corporate innovation and managed a travel app. Beginning from an initial freelance job for a Shanghai fashion label, the exciting idea of automating the world of 3-D design started to develop. We looked at several 'use cases', from in-store visual merchandising, to exhibitions and tradeshows and then to brand activations and pop-up events. In each area that we investigated, we found the same problems: UGLY - Many designs are overwhelmingly generic. Exhibitions and tradeshows have rows of booths that do not attract or engage. Roadshows and pop-up events have the same structures that look like 'more of the same' OR... COSTLY - To be fair, some spaces look amazing. But it is usually very costly on the wallet. They say you cannot have your cake and eat it. We beg to differ. With customisable design templates, it is possible to bring the price down. WASTEFUL - Most structures are thrashed after the event. They are bulky and come in large pieces, making them difficult to re-use or re-purpose. Coming from both the design and business fields, we felt we could do something about these problems, raised seed funds, joined forces and launched StandCraft!

How we do

Arising from our Christian beliefs, we bless our clients and their spaces with our products. We respect and value people ahead of what they can do for us. We are a community marked by grace.
The Birdcage - a project slated for Raffles City & Millenia Walk in partnership with URA
A collaborative booth with another startup (Mi5chiefmakers), showcasing our combined abilities to transform spaces into places
At UNICON 2018, where we were a finalist in the pitch competition
A work-in-progress for one of our clients. Showcasing a village well environment with their walter filtration technology.

As a new team member

You will work closely with the founders to design and prototype new modular-designed products with clients. StandCraft is a design/tech startup that helps brands stand out in the physical space. Using creative design and new technologies, we craft unforgettable brand experiences through our installations, displays and stands, ordered through a customisable online platform. Here is a bit about you, the candidate we would like to add to our team: >> YOU ARE A DESIGN THINKER. You are manic in crafting the best experiences. From choosing materials to deciding on form and usability, you are a master at employing design to meet users’ needs. YOU EXPERIMENT AND ITERATE. You push the boundaries. From integrating new technologies to experimenting with shapes, joints and making, you are bold and original in the design process. YOU LOVE GREY. Just kidding. GREY is a global creative agency we work with. Their family of clients include households brands such as P&G (Gillette, SK-II, Oral-B), GlaxoSmithKline (Panadol, Sensodyne, Horlicks) and Volvo. Besides working for these clients, you will also prototype and install a ‘live’ project in partnership with URA at Raffles City and Millenia Walk. >> Intern Responsibilities >> Design Projects / Manage projects with strategic clients (e.g. GREY, GSK, P&G) through the process of research, ideation, design, prototyping and production Design Innovation / Design new products, create processes to scale production using modular design, CNC manufacturing and integrate new technologies to generate immersive experiences for end users Prerequisites 3D Modeling Skills / Competent in modelling and rendering software (e.g. Sketchup/Rhinoceros/Autodesk/Vray/Keyshot/Maxwell/Photoshop/Illustrator etc.) Making/Fabrication / Experience working with fabrication tools and machines (e.g. laser cutters, CNC machines etc.) preferred If you do not possess some of the above skills, please still apply and we will be in touch.
