Singapore has a pool of good singers known locally and internationally. And there is an addition to that pool of talents. The artist is Joel Tan but known mostly as Gentle Bones. This write-up reviews Gentle Bone's song titled "Why Do We?"

Why Do We by the gentle bones is a pop music piece that seems pleasant to listen to, and the song's underlying message is love and sadness. The music combines synthesising sounds, beats and Gentle Bones' clear vocals. The use of a synthesiser is evidenced at the start of the songs that accompany the songs' vocals. Then a gradual build-up of other instruments like kicks, snares and hi-hats. With the synths melody filling the gap between the beats.

"Why Do We" is a track that speaks about Gentle Bone's interest in incorporating electronic music to produce his works. Cheng (2016) recorded Gentle Bone's perspective on electronic music as being beautiful. This pop music proves that the artist intended to allow listeners to experience mixed emotions. According to Lin (2020), the music is clean and straightforward, exploring complicated feelings without subjecting listeners to sadness. Furthermore,

Gentle Bones is the stage name of Joel Tan, a Singaporean-grown artist. Joel became the first Singaporean in 2016 that won the SuperNova Award at the Hong Kong Asian‑Pop Music Festival and had two sold-out concerts at Esplanade Concert hall. Joel is currently an artist signed under the music label Univeral Music Singapore (Gen T, n.d.).

"Why Do We" is an excellent piece that can reflect those seeking meaning in songs. The music is chill and composes soothing vibes for travelling or working/ studying. The songs seem to be about exploring the complexity of human emotion. Since the lines in the song are questions about love and hurt. And hence, it is the title of the music piece. Alternatively, it's a tune that can be enjoyed for easy listening while travelling or working/ studying.

In comparison to works like "Smile For Me." The similarity in the use of electronic music and vocals. In addition, the gradual build-up of instrumental is also evident. The differences are that Gentle Bones' Smile "For Me" has a much more upbeat rhythm, and the music is more dynamic than "Why Do We".mainly Notably, the synth beats of snares and kicks are used more in Smile For Me. Personally, it feels closer to dance tracks, and the vibe for Smile For Me is uplifting and powerful. The kind of song that brings energy when the energy level is low. There is a clear differentiation of style between the two pieces.

In summary, it is no wonder that Gentle Bones is a rising star in the local and international music scene. Gentle Bone is a name to note, and he deserves all the support as he continues to grow in his craft. Hopefully, through Gentle Bone, Singapore can be on the global stage, inspiring more to seek a career in music.
