The movement and precision of service robot is between the toy robots and industrial robots with comparatively low power actuators. The department I worked proposed to develop the actuators for service robot with comparatively low costs and enough precision and reliability. In view of this reason, it's also necessary to measure the characteristics of actuators we designed. Therefore the purpose of this project is to develop a general test system for all parts of actuators in a service robot.

The torque-speed characteristic measurements of electric motors are essential in design and manufacture of motor, and the coupling between motor under test and general dynamometer is the critical issue for high power electric motors. In this project, a contactless dynamometer is introduced by the design of a permanent magnetic retarder driven by the eddy-current, which has advantages in terms of reduction of vibration, friction, abrasion and without driven power.
