Philadelphia Sign Team Signing Joel Embiid To Extend 3-Year, KRW 257.7 Billion
The Philadelphia 76ers signed an extension contract with the team's flagship player Joel Embiid (213cm). Philadelphia announced on the 21st (Korea time) that it has signed a multi-year extension contract with Embiid. The club did not announce the period and amount, but ESPN, a U.S. sports media outlet, estimated that "it is worth $192.9 million (about KRW 257.7 billion) over three years." As a result, Embiid will play for Philadelphia from 2028-2029 and will receive a salary of $69 million and more than 92.1 billion won in Korean money in the 2028-2029 season, the final season of his contract. Embiid was selected by Philadelphia as the third overall pick in the 2014 Rookie Draft. He was named the MVP of the 2022-2023 season and has a brilliant career, including top scorer in 2022 and 2023 and a seven-time All-Star selection. Born in Cameroon, he also acquired French nationality in 2022, but eventually competed in the U.S. national team uniform at this year's Paris Olympics and won a gold medal. "Philadelphia is my hometown," Embiid said. "I want to play here until the end of my career." Philadelphia's best record is to advance to the second round of the playoffs after recruiting Embiid. Its last championship was in 1983.
