Mohegan Gaming Receives Operational License From The Hellenic Gaming Commission
The Hellenic Gaming Commission selected Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, the master developer of integrated entertainment resorts worldwide, to develop Greece's first integrated resort and casino. MGE's successful bid, filed in partnership with GEK TERNA, proposes a state-of-the-art development plan Inspire Athens, which includes a comprehensive mix of luxury hotels, premier entertainment venues, convention centers, shopping, dining, casinos, and premium amenities. The landmark Inspire Athens IRC is expected to make a significant contribution to the pioneering Helinicon project, which will drive an influx of international tourists and redefine Greece's modern identity. "We are honored to be chosen by the Greek Game Commission and believe that, as Greece's first integrated resort and casino experience, Inspire Athens will further solidify the city of Athens as one of Europe's most attractive and iconic destinations," said Mario Kontomercos, president and CEO of Mohegan Games and Entertainment. "We recognize the importance of this innovative effort for Greece and look forward to driving the cost of one of the most ambitious development projects undertaken in the country." MGE's involvement in the Helinicon project will support Greece's regional economy through the creation of more than 7,000 jobs in the under-construction and post-construction regions, including direct, indirect, and induced employment. The project is expected to contribute millions of euros annually to both the Greek government and its people in the form of taxes, infrastructure improvements, and public services. In addition, international tourism in the Attica region is expected to increase by at least 10%, further highlighting MGE's commitment to strengthening communities operating globally. With its preferred MICE destination in Athens, multi-purpose indoor event space, and state-of-the-art conference facilities to replace it with a sprawling resort pool, Inspire Athens plans to combine global luxury hospitality with constant entertainment in a way never seen before in southern Europe. The development project is underway on the site of Athens's former Helinikon International Airport and will follow the timeline outlined in the IRC proposal. The iconic design of the building was created by Steelman Partners, an international architecture firm specializing in IRC design and development. Most of the resorts are designed to take advantage of Greece's affinity for the outdoors, where virtually every restaurant, bar, lounge, and nightclub in the resort offers both an indoor and outdoor experience. The collection of food, beverages, and retail stores includes internationally recognized brands as well as popular local brands that emphasize traditional Greek dining, drinking, and shopping. Inspire Athens plans to be a centerpiece for weekly A-list music concerts, theatrical performances, major sporting events, and other arts and cultural activities.
