遺伝情報を格納しているDNAをコンパクトにして収納するのにタンパク質のヒストンが関わっています。かつてはヒストンを持つのは真核生物だけだと考えられていましたが、古細菌や一部の細菌もヒストン様のタンパク質を持つことが分かってきました。今回はこのヒストンに関するお話です。
