iDrank
iDrank is an alcohol sensor that functions as a key to unlock the user’s car, which is then installed into a smartwatch in its final packaging. iDarnk was selected to represent Nanotechnology specialization to feature in Singapore Polytechnic Engineering Show 2017 and was also featured on Lianhe Zaobao. This project conceptualized as a response against the high drink driving rate in Singapore, to serve as a physical prevention. Users are required to exhale into the sensor in order to unlock their car. However, should the breath alcohol concentration detected exceed the legal limit, the car will remain locked, hence preventing drivers from accessing their cars when intoxicated. This pushes intoxicated drivers to opt for alternative methods of transportation such as valet driving, thereby tackling the root of the consequences surrounding drink driving. The sensor is able to obtain a breath alcohol reading due to the voltage change, measured by the Arduino Mini, that occurs when the exhaled alcohol reacts with the PEDOT: PSS polymer that is being coated on the sensor. At 37-times smaller than a 5-cent coin, the miniscule size of the sensor allows for it to be conveniently installed into smartwatches, hence improving ease-of-use with its increased portability. As compared to similar products currently found in the market, this eventual product is smaller, lighter and more cost-effective. • Awarded the Silver Award • http://www.zaobao.com.sg/news/fukan/others/story20170419-750517
