Flow Theory–Driven Tour Design Begins to Spread Across Japan
In Tsurui Village, Hokkaido, I supported the development of experience-based storytelling through the lens of Flow Theory. In Japan, there are very few specialists in tourism psychology, and tour development has long relied on the subjective advice of advisors who are regarded as “experts.” Tourism psychology, however, is a scientific approach grounded in measurable data, offering perspectives fundamentally different from conventional intuition-driven guidance. Although still in its early stages, this psychology-based approach to tour design is steadily beginning to spread across the country.
