How can we encourage people to return to places instead of simply checking in once? LBS Stamp Collection is a research prototype exploring how location-based services can transform everyday places into meaningful, collectible experiences. Rather than treating travel as a series of isolated check-ins, the project investigates how real-world locations—such as temples, railway stations, landmarks, and even decorative manhole covers—can become part of a persistent collection that motivates continued exploration. The prototype generates large-scale collections of location-based points of interest, allowing users to discover, unlock, and organize digital stamps as they travel. Instead of relying on AR as the primary interaction, the system focuses on lightweight, repeatable mechanics that can later be enhanced with AI-powered validation and contextual storytelling. The project explores how geospatial systems can increase long-term engagement by transforming places into collectible memories rather than temporary destinations.
