Miami-Dade County Mayor Closes Casino
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced Thursday that he is "welcoming" the reopening of entertainment facilities including commercial casino Hialea Park casinos and racetracks, casinos Miami Jai-Ali, Magic City casinos and Calder casinos, and Gulfstream Park West. Miami-Dade County will impose a countywide 10 p.m. curfew from Friday, July 3, until 6 a.m. daily until further notice. Other entertainment facilities, such as movie theaters, arcades, adult arcades, concert houses, bowling alleys and other facilities, will also be closed. The county has no jurisdiction over tribal casinos. "We can only contain the virus if everyone takes personal responsibility and follows the rules. That means practicing social distancing, staying away from crowds, and wearing a mask wherever you go in public," the mayor said. "I don't want to close all businesses except essential businesses, but the only way to avoid that is for everyone to take COVID-19 seriously. It's for every generation, all of us, there's no exception."
