Florida casino workers beat home to win union
Contract negotiations began on July 8 at the Irish Casino in Pompano Beach, Florida, after workers secured a partnership with Unit Here on June 11 after nearly a year of union fighting. This is the first time a company has been forced to negotiate with workers. One of the biggest reasons the Irish casino's more than 1,000 workers joined the union was equal rights to quality healthcare. The casino is owned by Irish Capri Casino Inc., which has grossed more than 1 billion won over the past year, and workers saw no reason not to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
