1. What is Direct Recruiting?

Direct recruiting (direct sourcing) is a hiring method where companies approach potential hires through social networks and other means rather than waiting for applications and referrals as in the past.

2. Direct Recruiting Overseas

For companies overseas, direct recruiting (direct sourcing) has been the mainstream hiring method for years. Companies use LinkedIn and other platforms to directly approach and acquire talented potential candidates who are not necessarily active in the job market. 3. Direct Recruiting in Japan

Direct recruiting is a Japanese phrase, but in English-speaking countries, this method is more commonly referred to as direct sourcing. Although it has been the mainstream method abroad, this method of recruiting is only just starting to rapidly gain attention in Japan with many companies strengthening their direct recruiting efforts.

Adoption of direct recruiting is still limited and the culture of changing jobs has only recently developed in Japan, however, making it difficult for recruiters to attract candidates. Companies will need to continue to embrace this new hiring method in order to attract the best talent for their firm. Taking a direct approach to recruiting is no longer optional. Additionally, companies must put significant focus on developing effective PR and employer branding initiatives that complement their direct recruiting activities in order to remain competitive in today's tight labor market.
